Caution
• If the front ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness is pulled by mistake when performing this procedure, it could cause an open circuit. Before servicing, disconnect the front ABS wheel-speed sensor and set it aside so that the wiring harness will not be pulled by mistake.

1.Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.Disconnect the rubber from the bracket.

3.Disconnect the front ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness on the steering knuckle and set it aside so that it does not interfere with the servicing.

4.Remove front under cover No.2. (See FRONT UNDER COVER No.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5.Remove the fastener shown in the figure and slightly bend back the front mudguard.

6.Remove the front deflector. (See DEFLECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

7.Remove the front splash shield. (See SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

8.Drain the manual transaxle oil or ATF. (See MANUAL TRANSAXLE OIL REPLACEMENT [C66M-R (US)].) (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT [ET6A-EL (US)].) (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT [EV6A-EL, EV6AX-EL].)

9.Remove the locknut with the brake pedal depressed. (See Locknut Installation Note.)

Caution
• When removing the locknut, remove it manually without using an electric or pneumatic tool. Otherwise, the locknut may seize.
• When removing the locknut, do not apply load at the ground to the axle. Otherwise, it could damage the wheel hub.

10.Temporarily install a spare nut to the front drive shaft.

11.Tap the nut with a copper hammer and separate the front drive shaft from the axle.

12.Remove in the order shown in the figure.

13.Install in the reverse order of removal.

14.After installation, add the specified manual transaxle oil or ATF. (See MANUAL TRANSAXLE OIL REPLACEMENT [C66M-R (US)].) (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT [ET6A-EL (US)].) (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT [EV6A-EL, EV6AX-EL].)

Front Drive Shaft (LH) Removal Note

Caution
• The oil seal could be damaged at the end area of the front drive shaft. When removing the front drive shaft to the transaxle, be careful not to damage the oil seals. If the oil seal is damaged, replace it with a new one.

1.Perform the following procedures to separate the front drive shaft (LH) from the transaxle.

(1)Install the SST (49 B025 017) to the SST (49 B025 010).
(2)Separate the front drive shaft (LH) from the transaxle using the SST.

2.Remove the front drive shaft (LH).



Bracket, Front Drive Shaft (RH) Installation Note

Caution
• The oil seal could be damaged at the end area of the front drive shaft. When installing the front drive shaft to the transaxle, be careful not to damage the oil seals. If the oil seal is damaged, replace it with a new one.
• If the bracket No.2 nut is loosened, tighten the stud bolts for bracket No.1 because they may loosen.

1.Tighten the bracket No.1 stud bolts.

2.Temporarily tighten bolts A and B.

3.Completely tighten the bolts in the order of A and B.

4.Apply manual transaxle oil or ATF to the oil seal lip.

5.Insert the front drive shaft into the transaxle until the front drive shaft bearing contacts the bracket No.1 stopper.

6.After temporarily tightening nut C, and completely tighten it.

7.Apply grease (L2Y1 33247) to the wheel bearing inner race and front drive shaft contact surfaces (area A in the figure).

8.Insert the front drive shaft to the wheel hub.



Front Drive Shaft Clip Installation Note

1.Install a new clip to the clip groove at the end of the front drive shaft with the clip opening facing upward.

2.Verify that the outer diameter of the clip is within the standard.

Standard
SKYACTIV-G 2.0 (MTX): Less than 31.2 mm {1.23 in}
Except SKYACTIV-G 2.0 (MTX): Less than 34.0 mm {1.3 in}
• If it exceeds the standard, repeat installation using a new clip.



Front Drive Shaft (LH) Installation Note

Caution
• The oil seal could be damaged at the end area of the front drive shaft. When installing the front drive shaft to the transaxle, be careful not to damage the oil seal.

1.Apply manual transaxle oil or ATF to the oil seal lip.

2.Apply grease (L2Y1 33247) to the wheel bearing inner race and front drive shaft contact surfaces (area A in the figure).

3.Insert the front drive shaft to the wheel hub.

4.Install the front drive shaft to the transaxle.

5.After installation, verify that the front drive shaft is securely held by the clip by pulling the outer ring on the transaxle side towards the axle.



Locknut Installation Note

Caution
• When installing the locknut, install it manually without using an electric or pneumatic tool. Otherwise, the locknut may seize and the tightening force of the wheel hub may decrease and cause excessive play or abnormal noise.
• When installing the locknut, do not apply load at the ground to the axle. Otherwise, it could damage the wheel hub.

1.If dust or grease is on the drive shaft thread area, wipe it off with a cloth.

2.Tighten the locknut with the brake pedal depressed.
