DTC B00A0:81/B00A0:87 [SAS CONTROL MODULE (TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM)]

System malfunction location

  • B00A0:81:Occupant classification sensor memory check sum error

  • B00A0:87:Communication error with occupant classification sensor

Detection condition

WARNING:

  • Detection conditions are for understanding the DTC outline before performing an inspection. Performing an inspection according to only the detection conditions may cause injury due to an operating error, or damage the system. When performing an inspection, always follow the inspection procedure.

  • Error signal is detected between SAS control module and occupant classification sensor

Fail-safe

Possible cause

  • Occupant classification sensor connector malfunction

  • Open circuit in wiring harness between occupant classification sensor and SAS control module

  • Short to power supply in wiring harness between the SAS control module and occupant classification sensor

  • Short to ground in wiring harness between the SAS control module and occupant classification sensor

  • Occupant classification sensor malfunction

  • SAS control module malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1

INSPECT OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR CONNECTOR

WARNING:

Yes

Replace the malfunctioning part, then go to Step 5.

No

Go to the next step.

2

INSPECT OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND

  • Occupant classification sensor and fuse block connectors are disconnected.

  • Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side):

    • SAS control module connector terminal 3S

    • SAS control module connector terminal 3Q

NOTE:

  • Inspect for continuity while shaking the wiring harness between the SAS control module and occupant classification sensor.

  • Is there continuity?

Yes

Replace the wiring harness for a possible short to ground, then go to Step 5.

No

Go to the next step.

3

INSPECT OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT

  • Occupant classification sensor and fuse block connectors are disconnected.

  • Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side):

    • Occupant classification sensor terminal 4A—SAS control module connector terminal 3S

    • Occupant classification sensor terminal 4B—SAS control module connector terminal 3Q

NOTE:

  • Inspect for continuity while shaking the wiring harness between the SAS control module and occupant classification sensor.

  • Is there continuity?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Replace the wiring harness for a possible open circuit, then go to Step 5.

4

INSPECT OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY

  • Occupant classification sensor and fuse block connectors are disconnected.

  • Connect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

  • Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

  • Measure the voltage at the following terminals (wiring harness-side):

    • SAS control module connector terminal 3S

    • SAS control module connector terminal 3Q

NOTE:

  • Measure the voltage while shaking the wiring harness between the SAS control module and occupant classification sensor.

  • Is the voltage 0V?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Replace the wiring harness for a possible short to power supply, then go to the next step.

5

INSPECT OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the wiring harness or connector, then go to the next step.

6

PERFORM SAS CONTROL MODULE DTC INSPECTION

Yes

Replace the occupant classification sensor.

(See OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)

Then go to the next step.

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

7

VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED

Yes

Replace the SAS control module. (See SAS CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.
