DTC P050A:00 [PCM (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)]

NOTE:

  • To determine the malfunctioning part, proceed with the diagnostics from “Function Inspection Using M-MDS”.

Details On DTCs

DESCRIPTION

Cold start IAC system performance problem

DETECTION CONDITION

Determination conditions

  • The difference between the actual engine speed and the target engine speed is 100 rpm or more.

Preconditions

  • Engine speed: 500 rpm or more*1

  • Engine coolant temperature: 0—45 °C {32—113 °F}*1

  • Catalytic converter estimated temperature: 380 °C {716 °F} or less*1

  • Vehicle speed: 0 km/h {0 mph}*1

  • The following DTCs are not detected:

    • ECT sensor No.1 malfunction: P0116:00, P0117:00, P0118:00

    • MAP sensor malfunction: P0069:00, P0107:00, P0108:00

    • BARO sensor malfunction: P2228:00, P2229:00

    • Instrument cluster malfunction: P2610:00

  • *1: Value can be verified by displaying PIDs using M-MDS

Malfunction determination period

  • 9 s period

Drive cycle

  • 2

Self test type

  • CMDTC self test

Sensor used

  • CKP sensor

  • ECT sensor No.1

FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION

  • Limits intake air amount

  • Stops high pressure fuel pump control

VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTCs ARE OUTPUT

  • Illuminates check engine light.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

  • Air suction in intake air system

  • Drive-by-wire control system malfunction

  • Throttle valve malfunction

  • PCM malfunction

System Wiring Diagram

  • Not applicable

Function Explanation (DTC Detection Outline)

  • The PCM calculates the target engine speed appropriate to the engine conditions relative to the actual engine speed based on the CKP sensor signal and provides feedback to the drive-by-wire control (idling speed control). If the actual engine speed is lower or higher than 100 rpm relative to the target engine speed during cold-engine idling, the PCM determines a malfunction in the idling speed control, and stores a DTC.

Repeatability Verification Procedure

  • Leave the vehicle for 7 hours or more.

  • Start the engine and leave it idling for 1 min.

Function Inspection Using M-MDS

STEP

INSPECTION

RESULTS

ACTION

1

PURPOSE: VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY

  • Verify related Service Bulletins and/or on-line repair information availability.

  • Is any related repair information available?

Yes

Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.

  • If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.

No

Go to the next step.

2

PURPOSE: IDENTIFY TRIGGER DTC FOR FREEZE FRAME DATA

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Go to the troubleshooting procedure for DTC on FREEZE FRAME DATA.

(See DTC TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)].)

3

PURPOSE: RECORD VEHICLE STATUS AT TIME OF DTC DETECTION TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION

NOTE:

  • Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.

  • Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA/snapshot data on the repair order.

Go to the next step.

4

PURPOSE: VERIFY RELATED PENDING CODE AND/OR DTC

Yes

Go to the applicable PENDING CODE or DTC inspection.

(See DTC TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)].)

Go to the next step.

No

Go to the next step.

5

PURPOSE: VERIFICATION IF MALFUNCTION CAUSED BY THROTTLE VALVE

  • Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

  • Access the ETC_ACT PID using the M-MDS.

    (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [PCM (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)].)

  • While gradually depressing the accelerator pedal, verify that PID monitor ETC_ACT value increases.

  • Does the monitor value change according to the amount the accelerator pedal is depressed?

Yes

Go to the troubleshooting procedure to perform the procedure from Step 1.

No

Go to the troubleshooting procedure to perform the procedure from Step 2.

Troubleshooting Diagnostic Procedure

    Intention of troubleshooting procedure

  • Step 1

    • Perform an intake air system parts inspection.

  • Step 2

    • Perform a throttle valve related inspection.

  • Step 3—4

    • Verify that the primary malfunction is resolved and there are no other malfunctions.

STEP

INSPECTION

RESULTS

ACTION

1

PURPOSE: INSPECT INTAKE AIR SYSTEM FOR AIR SUCTION

  • Inspect the following parts of the intake air system for looseness, damage, and loss.

    • Between air cleaner and throttle body

    • Between throttle body and intake manifold

  • Is there any malfunction?

Yes

Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results, then go to Step 3.

No

Go to the next step.

2

PURPOSE: DETERMINE INTEGRITY OF THROTTLE VALVE

Yes

Replace the throttle body, then go to the next step.

(See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)

No

Clean the throttle valve, then go to the next step.

(See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)

3

PURPOSE: VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR COMPLETION

Yes

Repeat the inspection from Step 1.

Go to the next step.

No

Go to the next step.

4

PURPOSE: VERIFY IF THERE IS ANY OTHER MALFUNCTION

  • Is any other DTC or pending code stored?

Yes

Go to the applicable DTC inspection.

(See DTC TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)].)

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.
