\u2022 Performing the following procedures could cause an open circuit in the front ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness if it is pulled by mistake. Before servicing, disconnect the front ABS wheel-speed sensor and set it aside so that the wiring harness will not be pulled by mistake.<\/div>\n
\u2022 Do not allow a magnetized tool such as a magnetized screwdriver to come into contact with the ABS sensor rotor. If the ABS sensor rotor becomes magnetized it will be unable to read the ABS wheel speed sensor waveform correctly resulting in an ABS system malfunction to be determined and the inability to perform ABS control. If a magnetized object comes into contact with the ABS sensor rotor, it will be necessary to newly replace the rear drive shaft (ABS sensor rotor).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n

1.Drain the differential oil. (See DIFFERENTIAL OIL REPLACEMENT<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\n

2.Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\n

3.Switch the ignition ON (engine off).<\/p>\n

\n

4.Release the electric parking brake.<\/p>\n

\n

5.Switch the ignition off while pressing the electric parking brake switch.<\/p>\n

\n

6.Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION\/CONNECTION [(US)]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\n

7.Disconnect the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE MOTOR GEAR UNIT REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\n

8.Remove the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor and the bracket from the wheel hub component.<\/p>\n

9.Remove the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness and set it aside so that it does not interfere with the servicing.<\/p>\n

10.Remove in the order indicated in the table.<\/p>\n

\n

11.Install in the reverse order of removal.<\/p>\n

12.Add differential oil. (See DIFFERENTIAL OIL REPLACEMENT<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\u2022 When removing the locknut, remove it manually without using an electric or pneumatic tool. Otherwise, the locknut may seize.<\/div>\n
\u2022 When removing the locknut, do not apply load at the ground to the axle. Otherwise, it could damage the wheel hub.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n

1.Remove the locknut with the brake pedal depressed.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The oil seal could be damaged by the end of the drive shaft. When removing the rear drive shaft, be careful not to damage the oil seal. If the oil seal is damaged, replace it with a new one.<\/div>\n

1.Install a spare nut onto the drive shaft.<\/p>\n

2.Tap the nut with a copper hammer and separate the drive shaft from the axle.<\/p>\n

3.Lightly tap the step of the rear drive shaft using the brass bar and hammer, and separate the rear drive shaft from the rear differential.<\/p>\n

4.Before removing the wheel hub component, place alignment marks on the wheel hub component and the torsion beam axle so that they can be installed to the same position before removal.<\/p>\n

5.Remove the wheel hub component.<\/p>\n

\n

6.Move the rear drive shaft in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure and pull the rear drive shaft out of the rear differential.<\/p>\n

7.Move the rear drive shaft in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and remove it.<\/p>\n

Rear Drive Shaft Clip Installation Note<\/p>\n

1.Install a new clip to the clip groove at the end of the rear drive shaft with the clip opening facing upward.<\/p>\n

2.Verify that the outer diameter of the clip is within the specification.<\/p>\n

1.Apply differential oil to the oil seal lip.<\/p>\n

2.Insert the rear drive shaft to the wheel hub component.<\/p>\n

\n

3.Lightly tap the step of the rear drive shaft using a brass bar and hammer, and install the rear drive shaft to the rear differential.<\/p>\n

4.After installation, verify that the rear drive shaft is securely held by the clip by pulling the outer ring on the rear differential side towards the axle side.<\/p>\n

1.If dust or grease is on the drive shaft thread area, wipe it off with a cloth.<\/p>\n

2.Tighten the locknut with the brake pedal depressed.<\/p>\n
