\u2022 Handling the front seat belt (front pre-tensioner seat belt) improperly can accidentally deploy the pre-tensioner, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the front seat belt (front pre-tensioner seat belt). \u2022 The side air bag sensor is attached to the lower part of the B-pillar. When working around the B-pillar, disconnect the negative battery terminal avoiding excessive impact to the lower part of the B-pillar.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n

\u2022 If the retractor is disassembled, it will not operate correctly due to looseness and excessive play of the internal parts, therefore, do not disassemble the retractor.<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n

1.Slide the front seat forward.<\/p>\n

\n

2.Switch the ignition off.<\/p>\n

\n

3.Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more<\/span>. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION\/CONNECTION [(US)]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\n

4.Remove the cover. (with recliner lever knob)<\/p>\n

5.Using a flathead screwdriver, detach the pin and remove the recliner lever knob. (with recliner lever knob)<\/p>\n

6.Using the remover tool, disconnect the tabs (1) and remove the cover in the direction of the arrow (2) shown in the figure.<\/p>\n

7.Move (2) the front seat belt lower anchor in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure while lifting (1) the plate in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.<\/p>\n

8.Move (3) the front seat belt lower anchor in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove it from the anchor bolt.<\/p>\n

9.Remove the following parts:<\/p>\n

(1)B-pillar upper trim (See B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/dd>\n

\n
(2)Front scuff plate (See FRONT SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/dd>\n
<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n
\n
(3)Rear scuff plate (See REAR SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/dd>\n
<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n
\n
(4)B-pillar lower trim (See B-PILLAR LOWER TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/dd>\n
<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n

10.Using a flathead screwdriver, lift the locking device carefully, however do not remove it.<\/p>\n

11.Disconnect the front pre-tensioner seat belt connector.<\/p>\n

12.Remove bolts A.<\/p>\n

\n

13.Remove bolt B.<\/p>\n

\n

14.Remove the front seat belt retractor.<\/p>\n

\n

15.Remove the front seat belt.<\/p>\n

\n

16.Install in the reverse order of removal.<\/p>\n

\n

17.Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).<\/p>\n

\n

18.Verify that the air bag\/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s<\/span> and turns off.<\/p>\n

\u2022 If the air bag\/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See DTC INSPECTION<\/a>.)<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n
