Be careful not to spill any on painted surfaces. In addition, if there is any brake fluid on the wiring harness, the wire insulation may corrode causing a malfunction such as a short circuit. If brake fluid gets on a painted surface or wiring harness, wash and flush it off completely with water immediately.<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<dl>\n<dd>\n<div class=\"attention3-label\">Note<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<dd>\n<div class=\"attention3\">\n<div class=\"list\">\u2022 The following inspection methods are simple inspection methods to determine the function of the power brake unit.<\/div>\n<div class=\"list\">\u2022 If there is any malfunction in the power brake unit, replace the power brake unit as a single unit. (See <a href=\"SM2565968\">POWER BRAKE UNIT REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [L.H.D. (US)]<\/a>.)<\/div>\n<div class=\"list\">\u2022 Tighten the brake pipe flare nut using any commercially available flare nut wrench.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><br \/>\n<a name=\"id04110080175501\" id=\"id04110080175501\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"servinfosub-title\">Without Using SST<\/p>\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"id04110080175502\" id=\"id04110080175502\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"topic-title\">Operation inspection<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">1.With the engine stopped, pump the brake pedal a few times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">2.With the brake pedal depressed, start the engine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">3.If the brake pedal moves down slightly immediately after starting the engine, the unit is normal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"id04110080175503\" id=\"id04110080175503\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"topic-title\">Vacuum function inspection<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">1.Start the engine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">2.Stop the engine after driving the vehicle for <span>1\u20142 min<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">3.Depress the brake pedal with normal force.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">4.If the first pedal stroke is long and becomes shorter with subsequent strokes, the unit is normal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<dl>\n<dd>\n<div class=\"list\">\u2022 If a problem is found, inspect for damage to or improper installation of the check valve and vacuum hose. After repairing, inspect again.<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"id04110080175504\" id=\"id04110080175504\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"topic-title\">Vacuum loss function inspection<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">1.Start the engine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">2.Depress the brake pedal with normal force.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">3.With the brake pedal is depressed, stop the engine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">4.Hold the brake pedal depressed for <span>approx. 30 s<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">5.If the brake pedal height does not change during this time, the unit is normal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><br \/>\n<a name=\"id04110080175505\" id=\"id04110080175505\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"servinfosub-title\">Using SST<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>\n<div class=\"attention3-label\">Note<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<dd>\n<div class=\"attention3\">\n<div class=\"list\">\u2022 When performing the inspection using the <span>SST<\/span>, inspect the brake pipe on the left or right front wheel.<\/div>\n<div class=\"list\">\u2022 The following procedure and figures show the inspection for the brake pipe on the left front wheel.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"id04110080175506\" id=\"id04110080175506\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"topic-title\">Pre-inspection preparation<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">1.Remove the wheel and tire. Bleed the air form the <span>SSTs<\/span> using bleeder screw A.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">7.Install the pedal force gauge to the brake pedal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">8.Connect the vacuum gauge to the vacuum line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"id04110080175507\" id=\"id04110080175507\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"topic-title\">Vacuum loss inspection<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">1.Start the engine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">2.Depress the brake pedal with a force of <span>200 N {20.4 kgf, 45.0 lbf}<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">3.Stop the engine when the vacuum gauge reading reaches <span>68 kPa {510 mmHg, 20 inHg}<\/span> with the brake pedal depressed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">4.With the engine off, observe the vacuum gauge for <span>15 s<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p class=\"list\">5.If the gauge has dropped <span>3.3 kPa {25 mmHg, 0.97 inHg}<\/span> or less, the unit is normal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"id04110080175508\" id=\"id04110080175508\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"topic-title\">Lack of hydraulic pressure inspection<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">1.If the brake pedal force and fluid pressure correlation is within the specification with the engine stopped and a vacuum amount of <span>0 kPa {0 mmHg, 0 inHg}<\/span>, the system is normal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">\n<div class=\"spec\">\n<p clear=\"all\">\n<p class=\"table-title\">Master cylinder fluid pressure<\/p>\n<table class=\"table-flame\" border=\"1\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th id=\"\" align=\"left\" colspan=\"2\">\n<p class=\"thead\">Vacuum amount at 0 kPa {0 mmHg, 0 inHg}<\/p>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th id=\"\" align=\"left\">\n<p class=\"thead\">Brake pedal force<\/p>\n<\/th>\n<th id=\"\" align=\"center\">\n<p class=\"thead\">Fluid pressure<\/p>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td id=\"\" align=\"left\">\n<div class=\"tbody\">200 N {20.4 kgf, 45.0 lbt}<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<td id=\"\" align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"tbody\">610 kPa {6.22 kgf\/cm <sup>2<\/sup>, 88.5 psi} or more<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"id04110080175509\" id=\"id04110080175509\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"topic-title\">Hydraulic pressure inspection<\/p>\n<p class=\"list\">1.Start the engine.
