Warning

• Handling the knee air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the knee air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM – US/CANADA SPEC.].) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM – US/CANADA SPEC.].)

Driver-side

1.Switch the ignition off.

2.Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(US)].)

3.Remove the following parts:

(1)Driver-side front scuff plate (See FRONT SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(2)Driver-side front side trim (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(3)Driver-side decoration panel (See DECORATION PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(4)Passenger-side decoration panel (See DECORATION PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(5)Hood release lever (See HOOD RELEASE LEVER AND RELEASE CABLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(US)].)

(6)Driver-side lower panel (See LOWER PANEL DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY [(US)].)

4.Disconnect the driver-side knee air bag module connector. (See Knee air bag module connector disconnect note.)

5.Remove the data link connector in the direction of arrow (2) while detaching the tabs in the direction of arrows (1).

6.Remove the nut.

7.Remove the bolt.

8.Remove the driver-side knee air bag module while detaching the pin.

9.Install in the reverse order of removal.

10.Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

11.Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.

• If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See DTC INSPECTION.)

Knee air bag module connector disconnect note

1.Pull out the knee air bag module connector lock lever in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure.

2.Move the knee air bag module connector in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure to disconnect it.

Passenger-side

1.Switch the ignition off.

2.Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(US)].)

3.Remove the following parts:

(1)Dashboard under cover (See DASHBOARD UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(2)Passenger-side front scuff plate (See FRONT SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(3)Passenger-side front side trim (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(4)Passenger-side decoration panel (See DECORATION PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(5)Passenger-side lower panel (See LOWER PANEL DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY [(US)].)

4.Disconnect the passenger-side knee air bag module connector. (See Knee air bag module connector disconnect note.)

5.Remove the nuts.

6.Remove the bolt.

7.Remove the passenger-side knee air bag module.

8.Install in the reverse order of removal.

9.Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

10.Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.

• If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See DTC INSPECTION.)

Knee air bag module connector disconnect note

1.Pull out the knee air bag module connector lock lever in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure.

2.Move the knee air bag module connector in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure to disconnect it.
