Description

A/F sensor circuit slow response

Detection condition
Determination conditions
• The response speed of the A/F sensor input signal when the air/fuel ratio is fluctuated is slow.
Preconditions
• Engine speed: Within specified range
• Engine coolant temperature: Specified value or more
• Mass airflow: Within specified range
• A/F sensor voltage: within specified value
• Time until fuel-cut in all cylinders is completed: Within specified time
• Not during cylinder deactivation control (With cylinder deactivation)
• The following DTCs are not detected:
― A/F sensor heater: P0031:00 and P0032:00
― ECT sensor No.1: P0117:00 and P0118:00
― MAF sensor: P0100:00, P0101:00 and U060F:00
― BARO sensor: P2226:00, P2228:00 and P2229:00
― MAP sensor: P0107:00 and P0108:00
― Misfire: P0300:00, P0301:00, P0302:00, P0303:00 and P0304:00
― Fuel injection correction: P0171:00, P0172:00, P2096:00 and P2097:00

Function Explanation (DTC Detection Outline)

• The PCM detects the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas based on the A/F sensor signal. The PCM monitors the response speed of the A/F sensor to sudden changes in the oxygen concentration just after fuel cut control starts/ends. If the response speed of the A/F sensor is delayed, the PCM determines an A/F sensor malfunction and stores a DTC.

Repeatability Verification Procedure

1. Warm up the engine to allow the engine coolant temperature to reach 80 °C {176 °F} or more.
2. Start the engine and leave it idling for 1 min.
3. Shift to 3rd gear and drive the vehicle for 10 min at an engine speed of 1,500 rpm or more and a vehicle speed of 50 km/h {31 mph} or more.

Note
• Match the engine coolant temperature in the recorded freeze frame data/snapshot data, the vehicle speed, and engine speed values to the best extent possible while driving the vehicle.
4. Try to reproduce the malfunction by driving the vehicle for 5 min based on the values in the freeze frame data/snapshot data.

PURPOSE: IDENTIFY TRIGGER DTC FOR FREEZE FRAME DATA
• Is the DTC P0133:00 on freeze frame data?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the troubleshooting procedure for DTC on freeze frame data.

PURPOSE: RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
• Record the freeze frame data/snapshot data and diagnostic monitoring test results (A/F sensor, HO2S related).

Note
• Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
Go to the next step.

PURPOSE: INSPECT FOR OTHER RELATED DTCs
• Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION.)
• Are any of the following DTCs displayed?
― P0131:00
― P0132:00
― P0134:00
― P2237:00
― P2243:00
― P2251:00
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

PURPOSE: VERIFY A/F SENSOR
• Start the engine and idle it.
• Access the A/F_SEN_CUR PID using the M-MDS. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION.)
• Is the A/F_SEN_CUR PID value normal? (See PID/DATA MONITOR TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-G (US))].)
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Troubleshooting Diagnostic Procedure to perform the procedure from Step 1.

PURPOSE: VERIFY A/F SENSOR HEATER
• Start the engine and idle it.
• Access the A/F_SEN_HEAT PID using the M-MDS. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION.)
• Is the A/F_SEN_HEAT PID value normal? (See PID/DATA MONITOR TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-G (US))].)
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Troubleshooting Diagnostic Procedure to perform the procedure from Step 5.

PURPOSE: INSPECT FOR OTHER RELATED DTCs
• Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION.)
• Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

No

• Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes

PURPOSE: VERIFY IF A/F SENSOR IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY
• Is the installation condition normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Correctly install the A/F sensor and perform the repair completion verification.

PURPOSE: VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION RELATED TO EMISSION SYSTEM AFFECTS A/F SENSOR SIGNAL
• Inspect for exhaust gas leakage from the exhaust system. (between A/F sensor and HO2S)
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
No
Go to the next step.

PURPOSE: INSPECT A/F SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION
• Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.

PURPOSE: INSPECT A/F SENSOR HEATER FOR MALFUNCTION
• Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
Repair completion verification
PURPOSE: VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
• Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
• Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC.)
• Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
― Implement the repeatability verification procedure. (See Repeatability Verification Procedure.)
• Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION.)
• Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
