Electric Parking Brake Indicator Light, Brake Control System Warning Light

Purpose/function

• The electric parking brake indicator light and brake control system warning light notify the driver that the vehicle is under the following conditions.

― Electric parking brake indicator light

• The electric parking brake is operating.

• There is a malfunction in the electric parking brake system.

― Brake control system warning light

• There is a malfunction in the electric parking brake system.

• The mode is switched to the maintenance mode.

• The mode is switched to the electric parking brake inspection mode.

Construction/operation

• The electric parking brake indicator light and brake control system warning light are integrated with the instrument cluster.

• When the ignition is switched ON and if the system and CAN line of the electric parking brake are normal, the electric parking brake indicator light and brake control system warning light turn on for an open-circuit check and turn off after approx. 3 s. At this time, when the electric parking brake is operating, the electric parking brake indicator light remains turned on. However, if the electric parking brake is released, the light turns off.

• When the electric parking brake is operating, released, or malfunctioning, the electric parking brake indicator light and brake control system warning light operate as indicated in the table below.

• The DSC HU/CM sends a electric parking brake indicator light on request signal during the electric parking brake operation. When the instrument cluster receives the electric parking brake indicator light on request signal, the transistor is turned on and the electric parking brake indicator light turns on.

• If there is a malfunction in the electric parking brake, the DSC HU/CM sends the brake control system warning light on request signal and electric parking brake indicator light on request signal. When the instrument cluster receives the brake control system warning light on request signal and electric parking brake indicator light on request signal, the transistor is turned on and the electric parking brake indicator light and brake control system warning light turn on.

• If there is a malfunction in the electric parking brake, the DSC HU/CM sends a electric parking brake indicator light flash request signal. When the instrument cluster receives the electric parking brake indicator light flash request signal, the transistor is turned on intermittently and the electric parking brake indicator light flashes.

Electric Parking Brake Chime

Purpose

• While driving or after accelerating from a standstill, the electric parking brake chime alerts the driver that the electric parking brake is operating.

Functions

• If the vehicle is under any of the following conditions, the DSC HU/CM activates the chime and outputs the electric parking brake chime request signal to the BCM. A message is indicated on the display and the warning sound is activated to alert the driver.

― The electric parking brake is applied while driving.

― The accelerator pedal is depressed when the electric parking brake is operating while the vehicle is stopped (door opened or driver seat belt unfastened)

― The electric parking brake is operating after the vehicle accelerates from a standstill. (Electric parking brake automatic release function does not operate)

Construction/operation

• The parking brake chime is activated by the notification and warning speaker.

• The BCM receives (1) the electric parking brake chime request signal from the DSC HU/CM.

• When the BCM receives the electric parking brake chime request signal, the electric parking brake chime is activated (2) from the notification and warning speaker.
