Outline

System malfunction location

CKP-CMP (exhaust side) correlation problem

Detection condition
• The PCM monitors the input pulses from the CKP sensor and exhaust CMP sensor. If the input pulse pick-up timing do not match each other, the PCM determines that the camshaft position does not coincide with the crankshaft position.
Fail-safe
• Not applicable
Possible cause
• Improper valve timing
― Improper installation of timing chain to exhaust cam sprocket teeth
― Timing chain damage
― Exhaust cam sprocket damage
• CKP sensor malfunction
― Connector or terminals malfunction
― Foreign matter on CKP sensor
― Damaged or scratched CKP sensor pulse wheel
• Exhaust CMP sensor malfunction
― Connector or terminals malfunction
― Foreign matter on exhaust CMP sensor
― Damaged or scratched exhaust CMP sensor pulse wheel
• PCM connector or terminals malfunction
• PCM malfunction

Repair completion verification 1
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
• Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
• Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC.)
• Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
― Start the engine and warm it up completely.
• Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION.)
• Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
