Outline

• The rear window defogger removes fogging from the rear window glass surface.
• The heated outer mirrors remove fogging from the surface of outer mirror glass. (With heated outer mirrors)
• The windshield wiper de-icer warms the glass around windshield wipers when the windshield wiper is stuck due to freezing. (With windshield wiper de-icer)



Function

• Fogging on the rear window glass/outer mirror glass is removed by heating the rear window glass/outer mirror using the rear window defogger/heated outer mirror filaments to vaporize moisture on the window.
• Freezing on the windshield wipers is melted by heating the glass around the windshield wiper using the windshield wiper de-icer filaments.


Personalization features

• The operation time setting for the rear window defogger/heated outer mirror/windshield wiper de-icer can be changed. For details on the personalization features, refer to the [GLASS/WINDOW/ MIRROR PERSONALIZATION].

Construction

Rear window defogger
• The rear window defogger filaments are located on the cabin side of the rear window glass.

• The heated outer mirror filament is integrated in the outer mirror glass.

Windshield wiper de-icer
• The windshield wiper de-icer is located on the lower part of the windshield.

Operation

1.When the rear window defogger switch is turned on with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on), the climate control unit sends a rear window defogger operation request signal (1) to the BCM via CAN communication.

2.When the BCM receives the rear window defogger operation signal, it turns the rear window defogger relay on (2).

3.When the rear window defogger relay turns on, the windshield wiper de-icer relay turns on (3).

4.The rear window defogger timer operates at the same time the rear window defogger relay and windshield wiper de-icer relay turn on. In addition, voltage is supplied (4) to the rear window defogger/heated outer mirror/windshield wiper de-icer filaments and the filaments are heated to warm the glass around the rear window glass/outer mirror glass/windshield wipers.

Note
• When approx. 15 min have elapsed after the rear window defogger timer started operation, the BCM turns the rear window defogger relay off and stops the rear window defogger/heated outer mirror/windshield wiper de-icer operation. (Rear window defogger operation time is set to “Automatic Shut Off”.)
