Purpose

• The A/C compressor circulates the gaseous refrigerant in the refrigeration cycle.

Function

• The A/C compressor compresses the gaseous refrigerant by driving the piston in the compressor using the drive force from the engine. In addition, it sends the compressed refrigerant to the condenser.

Compressor valve

• The A/C compressor changes the piston stroke by operating the compressor valve.
• The refrigerant compression amount increases/decreases due to changes in the piston stroke.

Structure/Construction

• A variable displacement swash plate type compressor has been adopted for the A/C compressor.

• The A/C compressor consists of the following parts.

Compressor valve

• For the variable displacement swash plate type, the compressor valve changes the swash plate angle by controlling the balance of the internal pressures of the crank and cylinder chambers.

• The piston stroke becomes long/short by changing the swash plate angle.
• The refrigerant compression amount increases when the piston stroke is large and decreases when the piston stroke is small.

Operation

• For the operation of the A/C compressor, refer to the [REFRIGERANT SYSTEM] (See REFRIGERANT SYSTEM [(US)].)

Compressor valve

1. The PCM determines (3) the compressor valve signal current based on the signals (2) from each part while the magnet clutch is ON (1).

2. The PCM sends (4) a compressor valve signal based on the determined current.
3. The compressor valve (5) operates according to the compressor valve signal.
4. The operation pressure is low when the compressor valve signal current is high, and the operation pressure is high when the compressor valve signal current is low.
