Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the SAS control module. (See <a href=\"SM353470\">AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.) (See <a href=\"SM353469\">AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If the connector is connected and the ignition switch is turned to the ON position with the SAS control module not secured completely using the installation nuts, the SAS control module may detect a degree of impact even when something contacts it lightly, deploying the air bag module, pre-tensioner seat belt and lap pre-tensioner seat belt accidentally.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If the DSC sensor initialization is not completed after removing\/installing the SAS control module, the DSC will not operate normally which could lead to an unexpected accident. After the SAS control module is removing\/installing, always perform the DSC sensor initialization to ensure proper DSC operation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If configuration is not performed when the SAS control module is replaced with a new one, the vehicle specification information is not stored in the SAS control module and the system will not operate normally.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">CAUTION:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>When replacing the SAS control module, always perform the configuration procedure before removing the SAS control module. If the configuration is not performed and the SAS control module is removed, DTC B0003:53 will be displayed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>When performing configuration, it is necessary to read the vehicle specification information from the SAS control module before replacing it. Connect the M-MDS to the vehicle and perform vehicle identification before removing the SAS control module. The vehicle specification information is temporarily stored in the M-MDS.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">NOTE:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>The SAS control module prior to replacement stores the vehicle specification information.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>A new SAS control module does not store any vehicle specification information.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If the vehicle specification information from the SAS control module prior to replacement cannot be read, perform the configuration using As-Built data.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            1. Perform SAS control module configuration when replacing it. (See <a href=\"SM353480\">SAS CONTROL MODULE CONFIGURATION (USING READ\/WRITE FUNCTION) [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Switch the ignition off.<\/p>\n<p>            3. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for <b>1 min or more<\/b>. (See <a href=\"SM352783\">NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION\/CONNECTION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            4. Remove the following parts:<\/p>\n<p>              a. Selector lever knob (AT) (See <a href=\"SM353197\">AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              b. Shift lever knob (MT)<\/p>\n<p>              c. Shift panel component (See <a href=\"SM356197\">SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              d. Upper panel (See <a href=\"SM356228\">UPPER PANEL REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              e. Parking brake lever boot panel (See <a href=\"SM356180\">PARKING BRAKE LEVER BOOT PANEL REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              f. Rear console (See <a href=\"SM356194\">REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              g. Scuff plate (See <a href=\"SM356211\">SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              h. Tire house trim (See <a href=\"SM356200\">TIRE HOUSE TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              i. Front seat back bar garnish (See <a href=\"SM356220\">SEAT BACK BAR GARNISH REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              j. Quarter trim (See <a href=\"SM356222\">QUARTER TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              k. Wind blocker (See <a href=\"SM356221\">WIND BLOCKER REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              l. Roof hook lever (See <a href=\"SM356163\">ROOF HOOK REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              m. Back trim (See <a href=\"SM356223\">BACK TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              n. CD player (with CD player) (See <a href=\"SM356301\">CD PLAYER REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              o. CD player bracket (with CD player) (See <a href=\"SM356301\">CD PLAYER REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            5. Disconnect the SAS control module connectors.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003994.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003994.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            6. Remove the nuts.<\/p>\n<p>            7. Remove the SAS control module.<\/p>\n<p>            8. Install in the reverse order of removal.<\/p>\n<p>            9. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).<\/p>\n<p>            10. Verify that the air bag\/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for <b>approx. 6 s<\/b> and turns off.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>If the air bag\/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See <a href=\"SM353413\">FLOWCHART [SAS CONTROL MODULE (TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM)]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            11. Perform the DSC sensor initialization (when removing\/installing SAS control module). (See <a href=\"SM353039\">DSC RELATED PARTS SENSOR INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">NOTE:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>If configuration cannot be performed by reading\/writing of the vehicle specification information, perform the configuration using As-Built information after replacing the SAS control module.
