Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. (See <a href=\"SM353470\">AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.) (See <a href=\"SM353469\">AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.) Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for <b>1 min or more<\/b>. (See <a href=\"SM352783\">NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION\/CONNECTION<\/a>. )<\/p>\n<p>            2. Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See <a href=\"SM353476\">DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.) (See <a href=\"SM353495\">DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.) (See <a href=\"SM353477\">DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.) (See <a href=\"SM353496\">DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            3. Straighten the steering wheel.<\/p>\n<p>            4. Remove the locknut.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003056.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003056.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            5. Remove the steering wheel using any commercially available puller.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">CAUTION:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>Do not try to remove the steering wheel by hitting the shaft with a hammer. The steering column will be damaged.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            6. Remove the following parts:<\/p>\n<p>              a. Selector lever knob (AT vehicles) (See <a href=\"SM353197\">AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              b. Shift lever knob (MT vehicles) (See <a href=\"SM353149\">TRANSMISSION REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [M66M-D]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              c. Shift panel component (See <a href=\"SM356197\">SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              d. Upper panel (See <a href=\"SM356228\">UPPER PANEL REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              e. Parking brake lever boot panel (See <a href=\"SM356180\">PARKING BRAKE LEVER BOOT PANEL REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              f. Rear console (See <a href=\"SM356194\">REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              g. Front console panel (See <a href=\"SM356230\">FRONT CONSOLE PANEL REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              h. Wiper and washer switch (See <a href=\"SM356282\">WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              y. Start stop unit (See <a href=\"SM356095\">START STOP UNIT REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            7. Disconnect the connector holder from the bracket of the steering column.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005367.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005367.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            8. Remove in the order indicated in the table.<\/p>\n<p>            9. In addition, do not unlock the tilt lever until the steering column installation is completed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If the steering column is removed, remove it according to the procedure to prevent damage to intermediate shaft that could result if the steering column is removed in the incorrect order.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            1. Lock the tilt lever.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003059.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003059.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            2. Place alignment marks on the steering column, clip, and intermediate shaft (upper) as shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003060.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003060.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            3. Remove the joint bolt B.<\/p>\n<p>            4. Disconnect the intermediate shaft (upper) from the steering column.<\/p>\n<p>            5. Remove the nuts, then remove the steering column from the dashboard member.<\/p>\n<p>            6. Remove the clip from the steering column.<br \/>\n          <a name=\"id06130080140002\" id=\"id06130080140002\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Steering Column Installation Note<\/h4>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">CAUTION:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>Always lock the tilt lever to prevent damage to the steering column. In addition, do not unlock the tilt lever until the steering column installation is completed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If the steering column is installed, install it according to the procedure to prevent damage to intermediate shaft that could result if the steering column is installed in the incorrect order.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            1. Verify that the tilt lever of the steering column is locked.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003061.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003061.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            2. Install the clip to the steering column.<\/p>\n<p>            3. Temporarily install the steering column to the dashboard member using nuts A and B.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003062.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003062.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            4. Tighten the nuts in the order of nut A and nut B.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003063.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003063.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            5. Install the intermediate shaft (upper) with the alignment marks on the intermediate shaft (upper) and the clip, which were marked before removing the steering column, aligned.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003064.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003064.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">NOTE:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>When replacing the steering column with a new one, place an alignment mark on the new part in the same position as the removed steering column.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003065.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003065.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            6.
