SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]
WARNING:

Handling the side air bag sensor improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the side air bag sensor. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) 1. Switch the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
3. Remove the scuff plate. (See SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
4. Remove the tire house trim. (See TIRE HOUSE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
5. Disconnect the side air bag sensor connector. (See Side Air Bag Sensor Connector Disconnect Note.)
6. Remove the bolt.
7. Remove the side air bag sensor.
8. Install in the reverse order of removal.
9. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
10. Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.

If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART [SAS CONTROL MODULE (TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM)].)
Side Air Bag Sensor Connector Disconnect Note
1. Pull out the side air bag sensor connector lock lever in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure.
2. While pressing the lock lever in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure, disconnect the side air bag sensor connector.
