ELECTRICAL SUPPLY UNIT (ESU) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

2016 – MX-5 – Body and Accessories

ELECTRICAL SUPPLY UNIT (ESU) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2. Remove the following parts:

a. Selector lever knob (AT) (See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

b. Shift lever knob (MT)

c. Shift panel component (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

d. Upper panel (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

e. Parking brake lever boot panel (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER BOOT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

f. Rear console (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

g. Front console panel (See FRONT CONSOLE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

h. Front console component (See FRONT CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

i. Driver-side scuff plate (See SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

j. Driver-side front side trim (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

k. Driver-side A-pillar trim (See A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

l. Hood release lever (See HOOD RELEASE LEVER AND RELEASE CABLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

m. Driver-side lower panel (See DRIVER-SIDE LOWER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

n. Accelerator pedal (See ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)

3. Pull back the floor covering to a position which allows for the removal of the electrical supply unit (ESU). (See FLOOR COVERING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4. Remove the nuts.

5. Remove the vehicle wiring harness from the hook by pulling it in the direction of the arrow.

6. Remove the electrical supply unit (ESU) cover.

7. Disconnect the connectors.

8. While pressing the tabs of the electrical supply unit (ESU) in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure simultaneously, pull them in the direction of arrow (2) to detach the tabs from the body.

9. Pull the electrical supply unit (ESU) in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and detach the hook from the body.

10. Remove the electrical supply unit (ESU).

11. Install in the reverse order of removal.
