2016 – MX-5 – Transmission/Transaxle

CLUTCH PIPE AND HOSE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

CAUTION:

  • Do not allow clutch fluid to get on a painted surface. Clutch fluid contains properties which can dissolve the paint. If clutch fluid gets on a painted surface, rinse with water immediately, then wipe the area dry.

1. Remove the clutch reserve hose while pressing the point indicated by the arrow in the figure.

2. Remove the front crossmember under cover.(See FRONT CROSSMEMBER UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3. Remove the clutch pipes (No.1, No.2) and hose using the following procedure:

a. Pull and disengage the clip of the connector area.

b. Pull out the clutch pipes (No.1, No.2) and hose connectors straight.

c. Remove the clutch pipes (No.1, No.2) and the hose.

4. Verify that the seal rings are installed to the clutch pipes (No.1, No.2) and hose connector areas.

CAUTION:

  • The seal rings installed to the ends of the clutch pipes (No.1, No.2) and hose connectors may fall off or remain on the receiver side when the clutch pipes (No.1, No.2) and hoses are disconnected. If the clutch pipes (No.1, No.2) and hoses are assembled without installing seal rings, clutch fluid could leak from the connection areas.

5. Install clutch pipes (No.1, No.2) and the hoses.

a. Press in the clips in the connector areas.

b. Insert the clutch pipes (No.1, No.2) and the hose connector straight.

NOTE:

  • When the connector is engaged, a click sound is heard.

c. Install clutch pipes (No.1, No.2) and the hose.

6. Insert the clutch reserve hose connector straight.

NOTE:

  • When the connector is engaged, a click sound is heard.

7. Pull on the clutch receiver hose, clutch pipes (No.1, No.2) and hose connector area to verify that none are pulled out, and re-insert.

8. Install the front crossmember under cover.(See FRONT CROSSMEMBER UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

9. Bleed the air from the clutch system. (See CLUTCH FLUID REPLACEMENT/AIR BLEEDING.)
