PROPELLER SHAFT INSPECTION

1. Remove the bolts.

2. Remove the member bracket. (With member bracket)

3. Remove the bolts.

4. Remove the tunnel member.

5. Remove the propeller shaft (See PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

6. Measure the runout of the propeller shaft at each position using a dial gauge.

Maximum runout

• 0.6 mm {0.02 in}

• If it exceeds the maximum specification, replace the propeller shaft. (See PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

7. Inspect the play and rotation of the joint by turning the universal joint in the directions shown by the arrows.

Initial torque (reference)

• 0.29—0.98 N·m {3.0—9.9 kgf·cm, 2.6—8.6 in·lbf}

• If there is any play or if the initial torque is not within the standard, replace the propeller shaft. (See PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
