SIDE AIR BAG MODULE [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]

SIDE AIR BAG MODULE [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]
Purpose
-
When a side air bag module receives an impact from a lateral collision, the operation (deployment) of the air bag mediates the impact to the chest of the driver or passenger.
Function
-
When a side air bag module receives an impact from a lateral collision, the air bag is operated (deployed) by the operation signal sent from the SAS control module.
Construction
-
The side air bag module is located on the outboard side of each seat back.
-
The side air bag module consists of the inflator and air bag.
-
The inflator consists of the igniter and ignition agent.
Operation
-
The side air bag module operates (deploys) the air bag by activating the internal inflator.
-
The inflator operates (deploys) in the following order:
-
When an operation (deployment) signal is received from the SAS control module, the igniter built into the inflator generates heat and ignites the ignition agent.
-
The ignition of the ignition agent causes the combustion of the ignition agent which generates argon gas.
-
The argon gas expands, the section of the seat back wall breaks open, and the gas which is cooled and filtered by the filter inflates the air bag.
-
When the side air bag module operates (deploys), the air bag operates (deploys) while breaking open the seat back trim by the force of the gas sprayed out of the inflator.
