POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]

Purpose, Function

  • The PCV valve prevents release of blow-by gas (unburnt gas, combustion products) into the atmosphere.

  • The PCV valve is open/closed by the intake manifold vacuum.

Construction

  • The PCV valve is located on the oil separator.

  • The PCV valve consists of a spring and valve.

Operation

  • When the valve is pulled by the intake manifold vacuum, blow-by gas flows to the intake manifold.

  • The blow-by gas flow amount is determined by the balance of the intake manifold vacuum and the spring force.

  • During high engine loads without intake manifold vacuum, the blow-by gas is inducted from the upstream side of the throttle body into the intake manifold, and it is inducted together with the intake air.
