HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]

Purpose, Function

  • The high pressure fuel pump is used for the direct fuel injection system. Fuel, with a pressure of 450 kPa {4.59 kgf/cm2, 65.3 psi}, from the fuel pump built into the fuel tank is boosted up to 20 MPa {204 kgf/cm2, 2901 psi}, and it is pumped to the fuel distributor in an easily atomizable state.

Construction

  • The high pressure fuel pump is located on the exhaust camshaft at the rear of the engine.

  • The high pressure fuel pump consists of a spill valve control solenoid valve, spill valve, piston, and discharge valve.

Operation

  • Fuel is suctioned and pumped by the up and down movement of the piston caused by the rotation of the cam installed to the rear end of the exhaust camshaft.

  • Based on the control signal from the PCM, the spill valve control solenoid valve opens and closes in the high pressure fuel pump.

  • If the spill valve control solenoid valve malfunctions and the fuel pressure exceeds the specified value, the relief valve opens to assure safety.

  • For the high pressure fuel pump control details, refer to the [CONTROL SYSTEM]. (See HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CONTROL [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)
