SIDE IMPACT BAR

Purpose, Function

• The side-impact bars prevent the doors from deforming inwards during a side-impact collision.

Construction

• Waveform (double-hat shape cross section) shape has been adopted to the side impact bar lower.

• By adopting the waveform (double-hat shape cross section) to the side impact bar lower, strength can be assured even with thinner steel plates, achieving both high rigidity and weight reduction.

  

• The side impact bar lower/side impact bar upper disperse the impact during a side collision.

  

• Intrusion of a door during a side collision is suppressed by positioning the side impact bar lower and side impact bar upper so that they overlap the hinge pillar outer and rear fender panel.
