BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT FLASH [BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) SYSTEM]

NOTE:

Description

  • The blind spot monitoring (BSM) warningr light does not flash while under the flashing conditions.

Possible malfunction

NOTE:

  • The blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module cannot receive echo-back correctly if there is a thick moisture film (such as condensation) covering the rear bumper radar emitting/receiving areas.

  • Non-genuine rear bumper or paint, or installation of after-market parts may negatively affect the radar echo-back ability of the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module.

  • The blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module falsely detects a vehicle in the detection area as outside of it, or falsely detects a vehicle entering the area as not entering it.

    • Deviation of the radar emission direction (emission outside of warning area, adjacent lane) of radar from the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module.

      • Damage, deformity or looseness to blind spot monitoring (BSM) bracket or vehicle frame (including moderate impacts)

      • Incorrect installation of rear bumper, dirt on radar emitting/receiving area, application of stickers (including transparent types), repairs using putty application

    • The blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module cannot receive echo-back correctly.

      • Blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module malfunction

      • Incorrect installation of rear bumper, dirt on radar emitting/receiving area, application of stickers (including transparent types), repairs using putty application

    • Effect of non-genuine, after-market electronic device installation

  • The blind spot monitoring (BSM) control modules do not detect turn signal operation.

    • Blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module (LH) malfunction

  • Blind spot monitoring (BSM) warningr light flashing-related malfunction

    • Blind spot monitoring (BSM) warningr light

    • Blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module (RH) malfunction (malfunction in blind spot monitoring (BSM) warning indicator flash circuit).

    • Blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module (LH) malfunction (flash request not output).

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Perform the DTC inspection for the start stop unit, instrument cluster and the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module.

(See DTC INSPECTION [START STOP UNIT].)

(See DTC INSPECTION [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER].)

(See DTC INSPECTION [BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE].)

2

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Go to Step 6.

3

    VERIFY REAR BUMPER CONDITION

  • Inspect the rear bumper at the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module installation areas for the following:

    • Installation condition

    • Application of stickers (including transparent types)

    • Excessive dirt

    • Repairs using putty

  • Is the rear bumper condition normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, or replace the rear bumper.

(See REAR BUMPER REMOVAL.)

(See REAR BUMPER INSTALLATION.)

4

VERIFY INSTALLATION CONDITION OF BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE

  • Remove the rear bumper.

    (See REAR BUMPER REMOVAL.)

  • Inspect the installation condition of the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control modules for the following.

    • Looseness

    • Damage or deformity to the bracket

    • Distortion at vehicle installation surface

  • Is the installation condition of the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control modules normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the malfunctioning location.

5

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS AFTER-MARKET ELECTRONIC DEVICE INSTALLATION

  • Disconnect the non-genuine, after-market electronic device connectors.

  • Verify if the malfunction symptom recurs as stated by the customer.

  • Does the malfunction recur?

Yes

Go to Step 7.

No

Explain to the customer that the malfunction occurred due to the after-market electronic device installation.

6

BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) WARNINGR LIGHT INSPECTION

  • Inspect the illumination of the blind spot monitoring (BSM) warningr light.

    (See OUTER MIRROR GLASS INSPECTION.)

  • Is the blind spot monitoring (BSM) warningr light normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Replace the outer mirror glass.

(See OUTER MIRROR GLASS REMOVAL.)

(See OUTER MIRROR GLASS INSTALLATION.)

7

BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE INSPECTION

  • Inspect the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module on the side that is malfunctioning.

(See BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE INSPECTION.)

  • Is the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module normal?

Yes

A temporary malfunction in the radio wave emission from the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module can be considered.

If the same symptom recurs repeatedly, replace the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module.

(See BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

No

Replace the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module.

(See BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
